Es originario este apellido de la villa de Pedraza (cuyo nombre tomó) del partido judicia lde Sepúlveda y provincia de Segovia. Una de sus ramas tuvo casa en la villa de Villacastín, de la misma provincia, y de ella fué Miguel Sanz de P., vecino de Villacastín y marido de doña Beatriz Velázquez Mesia, de la misma vecindad, pero originaria del solar gallego de Mesia. Tuvieron estos hijos: Alonso Mesia P., que sigue, y Beatriz P. Mesia, que vivió en Villacastín casada con Francisco Márquez García de Arévalo, hijo de Marco Márquez, caballero principal de aquella villa, en cuya parroquia de San Sebastián tenía enterramiento honorífico al pie del altar de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, y de su mujer doña Antonia García de Arévalo, natural del Espinar (Segovia). En la tumaba de Marco Márquez había este epitafio: "Aquí yace Marco Márques, home rico de vacas en Guadiana, dignidad de aquellos tiempos". Doña Beatriz P. Mesia y don Francisco Márquez, fueron padres de Juan Márquez Mesia y P., casado en Villacastín, y Francisco Mesia Márquez P., Colegial del Mayor de San Clemente de la Universidad de Bolonia. Alonso Mesia P., casó con doña Jerónima de Tovar Rivera y fundó con licencia real el mayorazgo de Villacastín, en el que le sucedió su hijo Pedro Mesia de Tovar, Señor de las casas de Ponzano, Santo Domingo, Monterrubi y Canillas, que contrajo matrimonio con su prima doña Catalina Mesia, Señora de la casa y mayorazgo mayor de Mesia y de San Martín de Valdeiglesias.
