D'Ayala sagt in seiner Arbeit "Das Leben der berühmtesten neapolitanischen Kapitäne und Soldaten", dass diese Familie ursprünglich aus Verona stammte, aus der Adelsfamilie dieser Stadt stammte und zuerst nach Venedig, dann nach Bari verzweigte. Ignazio war ein Militärkadett in den nationalen Regimentern; Eugene war General Army Chief. Von Eugene, der 1787 eine neue Ansammlung zum Bari-Patrizier erhielt, und von seiner Gemahlin Brigida Plumjett aus Belgnec, einer irischen Adelsfamilie, wurden unter den anderen Kindern gezeugt: Giuseppe, Giovan Battista und Gabriele, drei tapfere Militärs.
