Noble linaje, con mucha antigüedad en el reino de Aragón. Algún autor escribe que sus primitivos ascendientes eran originarios de Navarra, de donde se trasladaron a Aragón, pero no aporta ningún dato que justifique tal creencia. Es lo más comprobado que los de este apellido radicaron antiguamente en Aragón y que de allí pasaron al reino de Valencia, creando casa muy principal en La Mata de Morella, villa perteneciente al partido judicial de Morella y provincia de Castellón de la Plana.
