Tortona era sin dai primi decenni del XII sec. patria dei Pagasepe menzionati in un'antica pergamena, pervenutaci tuttora illesa, tra le famiglie nobili ivi viventi nell'anno 1140 di cui c'informa il Montemerlo ed il Bottazzi.
