Famiglia oriunda di Castellar, anticamente detta Peleoni, passata poi in Vinovo e in Vercelli e propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. In data 2 luglio 1617, i fratelli Francesco e Stefano ottennero il privilegio dell'arma gentilizia. Il capitano Gianfrancesco si trasferì in Piemonte, e, nel 1690, il di lui figlio Claudio-Maurizio possedeva già parte di Parpaglia. Tommaso-Filippo, figliuolo di Claudio, comandante di Vercelli e luogotenente generale di cavalleria, acquistò nel 1731 il terzo di Semiana e la metà di Persano, e nel 1771 l'avvocato Carlo, avendo acquistato l'altra metà del feudo, questo fu eretto in contea. Appartenne a questa famiglia Carlo (nato Vercelli, 11 marzo 1806, defunto Torino 28 agosto 1883), di Luigi, che fu ministro della Marina, ammiraglio, senatore del Regno e che comandò la flotta nella disastrosa battaglia di Lissa nel 1866.
