Família antiga e ilustre de Abruzzo, de virtude clara e ancestral, que se espalhou ao longo dos séculos por várias regiões da Itália, sendo o maior povoado da Úmbria. A casa surgiu da união, provavelmente por casamento, de ramos colaterais de duas famílias nobres sicilianas, que iremos discutir em breve. Acredita-se que a família Pilo ou Pelosi tenha sido trazida de Gênova para a Sicília, no final do século XVI, por um Bartolomeo, de Gio. Battista. No entanto, a família é originária da Espanha.
