Segundo Ghilini, a linhagem Perbono ou Perboni, anteriormente Petrobono (Bônus de Petrus), veio de Ponzone, originária de um dos sete filhos do marquês Aleramo duque da Saxônia, e Adelasia, filha do imperador Otto I, viveu nos anos por volta de 974. O imperador deu a cada um de seus netos um marquês: entre eles, o primeiro, Guglielmo, tinha o Monferrato e o sexto, Ponzone: a família Perboni derivaria da família do marquês de Ponzone. Guasco cita um documento datado de 23 de agosto de 1151, no qual é nomeado um proprietário de terra "Petrusbonus" em Marengo. Os Perboni estavam de fato entre os maiores proprietários de terras em Frascheta.
