Antigua familia de Campania, de clara y ancestral virtud, que se ha extendido a lo largo de los siglos en varias regiones de Italia. El origen de esta cognominación, por decir lo menos de los genealogistas ilustres, debe buscarse en un apodo, que se origina por encima de la palabra del dialecto del sur "percuoco" (= albaricoquero), probablemente dado de una manera hilarante, a un progenitor, hoy desconocido. Sin embargo, en aras de la integridad y el amor a la verdad, no podemos guardar silencio ya que, según otros historiadores, esta familia habría tomado su nombre del distrito de S. Percopo, más tarde llamado Farneta, en el municipio de Oriolo (CS), tal vez, lugar de nacimiento de los progenitores.
