Notizie frammentarie si hanno in Roma, dalla metà del XII alla fine del XIII secolo, e a Firenze al principio del sec. XIV, ma notizie certe si ritrovano a Camerino anteriormente alla signoria del Varano come risulta dalla ricognizione delle antiche Famiglie Consolari compiuta nel 1545 per ordine del cardinale Durante, Legato dell'Umbria. Capostipite dell'attuale ramo fu Niccolò, che uscì eletto priore più volte dal 1552 al 1575. Da Niccolò nacque Camillo e da questi e da Gismonda degli Atti, Gabriele, che ricoprì le più alte cariche cittadine e fu padre di Belisario, abbondanziere pio nel 1654, e di Mariano, tesoriere della Rev. Camera Apostolica di Ascoli. Dal matrimonio di Mariano con Cecilia Ghislieri, nacque, nel 1671, Paolo Antonio, bisavolo di mons. Pietro Paolo, canonico liberiano, cameriere segreto di SS., distintosi per abnegazione nell'epidemia colerica del 1837 in Roma, di Giuseppe, delicato pittore (affreschi e tempere nel Palazzo Cancani Montani
