Su di un'altura della zona collinosa che nella valle dello Scrivia degrada verso le acque del torrente a levante di Carezzano, i tortonesi eressero sul finire del X secolo un castello che con l'esiguo abitato, denominato Cornigliasca, fu unitamente a Cerreto infeudato da papa Urbano II nel 1090 ai fratelli Achille e Pallamede Pernigotti al loro ritorno dalla prima infausta crociata in Terra Santa invocata e condotta da Pietro l'Eremita. Non si hanno notizie sulla loro attività e presenza in Tortona sino al 1297 anno in cui da un atto del 20 e 22 agosto e primo settembre si apprende che proprietà di Giovanni P. in Cerreto Grue confinano con terreni venduti tra abitanti del luogo; nel 1393 Efesa P. era suora professa nel monastero della SS. Annunziata di T. Coll'estinzione della diretta discendenza dei predetti fratelli Achille Pallamede oppure per cessione volontaria Cerreto fu investito con diploma 7 febbraio
