Nel 1612 Carlo P. dei conti di S. Martino fece acquisto del feudo di Quart in Val d'Aosta, di cui i suoi discendenti tennero il possesso fino al 1807, nel qual tempo essi fecero la cessione delle terre che erano loro rimaste e del castello in favore di quel Comune, Fra i suoi membri son da notare un barone P. che nel 1704 difese bravamente la città d'Ivrea contro gli assalti del duca di Vendòme. In detto secolo la famiglia P. era rappresentata da un cavaliere della SS. Annunziata che sostenne eminenti cariche militari e diplomatiche, e da un gran croce dell'Ordine Mauriziano, maggiore generale di cavalleria. Erano questi l'avo ed il padre di Carlo Giuseppe Maurizio Ettore P. di S. Martino il quale prese parte alle campagne di Portogallo di Spagna e di Russia, poi nel 1830 a quella del Belgio al servizio della Francia nel 1832 egli
