In 1612 Carlo P. of the counts of S. Martino made the purchase of the fief of Quart in Val d'Aosta, of which his descendants held possession until 1807, in which time they made the transfer of the lands that were left to them and of the castle in favor of that Municipality. Among its members, a Baron P. is worthy of note. In 1704 he bravely defended the city of Ivrea against the assaults of the Duke of Vendòme. In this century the P. family was represented by a knight of the SS. Annunziata who supported eminent military and diplomatic offices, and a large cross of the Mauritian Order, major cavalry general. These were the ancestor and the father of Carlo Giuseppe Maurizio Ettore P. di S. Martino who took part in the campaigns of Portugal of Spain and Russia, then in 1830 to that of Belgium in the
