Ancienne et très noble famille napolitaine, qui, d'après ce qui nous est transmis, serait d'origine française et, précisément, viendrait du Languedoc-Provence, terre des célèbres Troubadours médiévaux. La famille, qui est divisée en plusieurs branches, a possédé des fiefs à la fois en Calabre Hither et Ulterior; il a également vécu noblement en Sicile et à Naples. Une fois en Italie, il était donc reconnu par la Maison Royale d'Anjou, la Maison Royale d'Aragon et la Maison de Habsbourg.
