Los genealogistas no están de acuerdo con el origen de esta familia. Algunos lo derivan de los condes Persichetti de Cremona, ya que una rama de este noble linaje floreció en Sicilia en el siglo XVII; otros argumentan que es originario de Abruzzo y propiamente de ese castillo de Poppleto, en el campo de Aquilano, que dio su nombre a la poderosa familia de los condes de Poppleto del Corvaro, que con Gaglioffi, Pretatti y Camponeschi lucharon por el final de la Edad Media, el señorío de Aquila. Que este es realmente el origen de esta familia o dice el hecho de que su progenitor Petruzzo de Persichetto era hijo de Persichetto del Corvaro, ya que fue posible determinar a través de la lista de luchadores en la famosa batalla de Otranto contra los turcos, entre los cuales figuran como Hombres de armas tanto el dicho Pteruzzo como su padre.
