Famiglia originaria di Savignano di Romagna, trapiantatasi a Pesaro nella fine del secolo XVIII. Poco dopo ottenne di essere aggregata al patriziato di Pesaro, ed il primo fu Giuseppe Antonio nel 1775. Ma la maggior gloria di questa famiglia fu Giulio, nato a Savignano il 15 agosto 1779. Furono suoi genitori Andrea e Anna Cassi; fece i suoi primi studi nel Collegio di San Carlo a Fano, e nel 1801 passò a Roma a studiarvi matematica e giurisprudenza e dove si laureò in legge, senza però tralasciare i suoi preferiti studi letterari. Mortogli il padre nel 1804 si fece altamente apprezzare e ricoprì le prime cariche civiche. Fu poi podestà di Savignano, giudice del tribunale di Pesaro e nel Regno Italico fece parte del Collegio elettorale per la sezione dei "Dotti". Sposò Costanza, figlia del poeta Vincenzo Monti.
