Famiglia originaria di Gravedona, donde nel secolo XIII si allontanò, per stabilirsi a Chiavenna. Un Alberto, che è il capostipite di essa, ottenne la conferma della sua nobiltà con sovrana Risoluzione 28 gennaio 1817 in favore di Paolo Antonio, padre Rodolfo, dal quale, mediante Francesco, discendono gli attuali iscritti. Dagli atti relativi alla conferma suddetta risulta in genere che la famiglia diede uomini illustri specialmente nel campo militare e che gli ascendenti di Paolo Antonio furono sempre decorati in atti pubblici e privati, di predicati onorifici e tennero quelle cariche che la natura del governo di Chiavenna riservava alle persone più distinte. Tra i personaggi più importanti della famiglia sono da annoverarsi: Ferabusco del Leone, vivente nel secolo XIII, notato per la sua rara forza fisica; Baiamonte di Bella Spada, morto nel 1515 a Goa; Ringardo, morto a Praga nel 1575; Ramagasso, cavaliere dell'ordine di S.
