Antica e nobile famiglia d'Abruzzo, della quale si trova memoria, al tempo di re Carlo I d'Angiò, con un Roberto, di Pietro, feudatario di parte di Orza. Godette nobiltà in Aquila, Chieti e Sulmona; e di quest'ultima città era Lorenz, barone di Castiglione della Pescara. Questi sposò verso la metà del secolo XVIII l'unica figlia del marchese Nicola Fragianni, consigliere della R. Camera di S. Chiara Gildippe, nobile di Barletta, acquistò il titolo di marchesa con anzianità dal 1654 e ne raggiunse il cognome, e fu aggregato anche alla Nobiltà di Barletta nel 1754, e, poco dopo, al Patriziato di Bari, Patriziato pel quale fu ascritta la famiglia al regio delle Piazze Chiuse del Regno. Nicola, marchese di Castiglione della Pescara fu pure cavaliere d'onore e devozione del S.M.O. di Malta.
