Famiglia originaria di Siena, com'è dimostrato dalla Pruova all'Ordine Gerosolimitano. Passata in Priorato nel 1467 in persona del Commendatore Petrone; e nel 1757 del Commendatore Gaetano, avendone fatto la pruova da Salimbene, patrizio di Siena; e passata nuovamente in Priorato nel 1797 in persona del Cavaliere Saverio Maria, dei duchi di Sessa e Marchesi di Nisida, per Pruova di consanguineità col succennato Commendatore Gaetano, suo prozio (Arch. Ordine Malta 4623). Ebbe il possesso di vari feudi fra i quali: Padula, col titolo di Marchese, e Sessa del Gilento col titolo di Duca, e per successione della famiglia Astui il titolo di Marchese di Nisida, come dal Cedolario di Terra di Lavoro, dove a Nicola Maria, il 9 dicembre 1793, sono intestate alcune giurisdizioni di Nisida per successione del suo genitore Pietro Antonio Marchese di Nisida morto il 4 marzo 1792.
