Esistette in Sicilia una famiglia Ottaviano, della quale sono da notarsi un Minaldo, che fu giurato di Caltagirone nel 1425, un Agostino, che tenne la carica di patrizio in detta città nel 1549, un Francesco, che con privilegio del 20 settembre 1638, ottenne la concessione del titolo di barone delli Rinelli; siamo però certi che nulla di comune tale famiglia ha avuto con la famiglia Ottaviano, succeduta a casa P. nel possesso del titolo di conte. Domenico P., che fu giudice del tribunale della Gran Corte, ecc. comperò nel 1819 da Carlo Cottone Cedronio, principe di Castelnuovo la terra di Bavuso col titolo di conte, ma con R.Rescritto del 7 ottobre 1837, gli venne negato il riconoscimento del detto titolo, riconoscimento che, invece, venne accordato con R.D. 27 luglio 1873 a Francesco Marcello Pettine, figlio di detto Domenico e di Angela Pareti.
