Questa famiglia è altro che il ramo cadetto della nobile ed antica famiglia, patrizia di Tolentino e nota fin dal 1100; perciò vedere, per le notizie storiche, a tale famiglia Giacomo Bernardino sposò nel 1797 la nobile Elisabetta Possenti di Fabriano, la quale volle che uno dei suoi 11 figli aggiunse il cognome Possenti e inquartasse l'arma di sì nobile famiglia. Quegli che aderì ai desideri della madre fu Giovanni Battista, che andò a stabilire la sua discendenza a Fabriano. Fu sua sposa la nobile Teresa degli Abati-Trinci-Villa, che gli portò in casa tutti i diritti nono solo della sua propria famiglia, ma anche quelli delle altre due di cui la sua era stata ereditiera. La città di Fabriano per questo illustre parentado, aggregò Gio. Battista suddetto e discendenti alla nobiltà di Fabriano nel 1840.
