Cognome galiziano. Viene dalle vicinanze di Betanzos a La Coruña. Una filiale passò alle Asturie stabilendosi ad Abres e San Tirso de Abres. Anche nelle Isole Canarie questo cognome è stato stabilito dalla metà del XVI secolo. Sebastián P. e Santiago Mario P., si stabilirono nella città di Puntallana, da dove questo cognome si diffuse in tutta l'isola, in particolare a Santa Cruz de la Palma; collegato con illustri famiglie di palme, come Lugo, Van de Walle, Fleitas, Molina, Crespo, ecc. I suoi membri ricoprivano importanti incarichi ecclesiastici e civili in ogni momento. Nel corso del tempo l'ortografia di questo cognome è stata modificata, eliminando la seconda "i" per rimanere nella forma spagnola di oggi, che viene anche utilizzata alla Palma.
