Da numerosi documenti e dal cognome stesso, si può affermare che questa famiglia, stabilitasi nel Veneto, abbia avuta l'antica origine dalla provincia di Piacenza. Da una lite, decisa nel 28 aprile 1173, insorta tra il monastero di San Michele di Candiana, Gerardo vescovo di Padova e l'abate di San Pietro di Modena, si apprende che papa Alessandro III ha chiamato "domino Tebaldo Placentino episcopis" come pacere e giudice. Sette anni dopo, cioè nel 1180, in una testimonianza nella causa civile tra Bernardino Giudice e il monastero di S. Cipriano a Murano, sul diritto di un terreno a Campolongo Maggiore, è citato "Rambertinus Placentia iurati". Originario da Piacenza (de Placentia) si chiamò anche quel "Jacopo de-Andito de Placentia", quindi Placentino ed infine P. (in dialetto veneziano Piasentini) che fu podestà di Padova nel 1210 e 1217.
