Antiga e muito nobre família Parma, no entanto originária da Alemanha, conhecida como Piazza ou Della Piazza, cujas memórias mais antigas datam do século X, que se espalharam ao longo dos séculos em várias cidades italianas, incluindo Siena, Cremona, Bergamo, Forlì , Piacenza e Asti. Uma praça Cristoforo, general dos lombardos, militando na Sicília contra os sarracenos, obteve a estola vermelha que era usada para conferir aos bravos sicilianos. Por outro lado, o ramo siciliano da família, de acordo com o oficial Mugnos, descendia de Piacenza, com Pietro, Bartolomeo e Arniccione, soldados a serviço do regimento normando. Dessas vieram Corrado, Nicone e Alessandro, que serviram a realeza da Suábia. Federico, filho de Corrado, foi um dos principais barões da cidade de Palermo.
