Ancient and illustrious family, born from the union of two noble families: that of the Piccioli and that of the Cappelli. The Piccioli family has been a member of the Council of Padua since 1081. A Bonifazio and an Orlando by Pier veggonsi registered in the catalog of the year 1275, and ascribed to the college of judges established in that year. Piccolo de 'Piccolo canon of the cathedral of Padua, was by order of Eccelino III, together with Benedetto Araldo, beheaded and burnt in the middle of the meadow of the Valley for having promised to deliver the castle of Bovolenta in Avezzuto degli Avogari, enemy of the tyrant 1239. The last memory of this family refers to the priest Francesco de Piccoli, who lived in the first half of the seventeenth century. The hats, however, originate from S. Pietro a Sieve in Mugello.
