Alla discesa di Carlo d'Angiò in Italia nel 1264 tra i condottieri del suo esercito venne anche un Adamo, capitano di cavalleria, che nella conquista del regno di Napoli fu fatto signore del Castello di Macerata tra Napoli ed Aversa. Un Tommaso di questa famiglia, celebre matematico, nel 1470 si recò in Bologna a causa dei suoi studi, e da questi discende la famiglia oggi detta per avere uno dei discendenti della medesima assunto il detto cognome in memoria che i suoi antenati avevano molto tempo governato quella terra nella diocesi di Teano. Giovanni Battista fu cavaliere dei SS. Maurizio e Lazzaro, fu degli Anziani nel 1532, onore che ebbero pure Lorenzo nel 1586, Andrea nel 1575, Giovanni Antonio nel 1578, ed altri. Furono pure cavalieri dei SS. Maurizio e Lazzaro Giovanni Antonio nel 1578, e Giacomo nel 1615. Questo Giacomo fu capitano di 200 picchieri nella guerra di Piemonte.
