Antica e nobile famiglia originaria di Savona. Buongiovanni, Vassallo e Castelletto sono tra i cittadini genovesi che giurarono la pace con Pisa nel 1188. Ogerio nel 1380 e Bartolomeo nel 1391, furono consiglieri della Repubblica. Gaspare fu ambasciatore al Duca di Milano nel 1488, governatore di Corsica nel 1489, anziano nel 1493 e 1525. Ascritti nei Di Negro nel 1528. Altro ramo. Antica e nobile famiglia di Settimo Vittone. La presenza del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta della casata. Infatti l'origine del motto risale a circa il XIV secolo e deve essere ricercata in quei detti arguti che venivano scritti sui vessilli o bandiere dei cavalieri, esposti alle finestre delle locande in cui questi alloggiavano, in occasione dei tornei, e durante i tornei stessi.
