Antigua y noble familia Emiliana, escrita Pii o Pij, originaria de la ciudad de Bolonia, cuya nobleza se confirma por la presencia del blasón en las principales armaduras italianas. El escudo de armas de la familia Pii o Pij da Bologna está estampado: descuartizado; en el primero de rojo, en la cruz de plata, con el borde azul, cargado con ocho bisants dorados; en la segunda y tercera banda de rojo y plata, de cuatro piezas; en el barrio dorado, al león verde; con la cabeza del escudo dorado, cruzando en el cuarto y cargada con un águila negra, coronada con el campo. Inquartato; nel primo di rosso, alla croce d'argento, colla bordura d'azzurro, caricata di otto bisanti d'oro; nel secondo e terzo fasciato di rosso e d'argento, di quattro pezzi; nel quarto d'oro, al leone di verde; col capo dello scudo d'oro, attraversante sull'inquartato e caricato di un'aquila di nero, coronata del campo.
