Famiglia originaria della Spagna, i cui membri intervennero alle Corti generali del regno in Cagliari. Il marchese Vittorio, XVIII barone di Putifigari, discendente da don Pietro d'Aragona lo concedette in feudo con diploma dato in Valenza addì 6 maggio 1364, fu militare assai distinto e si fece un nome onorato per la sua intelligenza, pel suo coraggio e per i posti luminosi ai quali fu innalzato dai propri meriti. Nacque in Sassari il 15 maggio 1778 da Francesco, marchese di Putifigari (che era succeduto al barone don Pietro il quale in data 10 maggio 1757 aveva ottenuto l'erezione della baronia in marchesato), e da Felicita dei conti Richelmi, appartenente ad una delle famiglie più illustri del Piemonte.
