Antica ed assai nobile famiglia spagnola, originariamente conosciuta come Pilo, la quale si propagò primieramente in Genova e successivamente in Sicilia, in persona di Bartolomeo, nel 1560. Divisasi in molti rami, alcuni cominciarono ad essere conosciuti come Pilotto. In ogni modo, in Sicilia, la famiglia sali presto in grande autorità e potenza ed ebbe la baronia di Brucato, la contea di Capaci ed il marchesato di Marinco. Girolamo fu capitano giustiziere di Palermo e ministro superiore della nobile compagnia della Carità nel 1693; Ignazio-Lorenzo, chierico regolare teatino, lasciò 45000 scudi per la fabbrica della chiesa di S. Giuseppe di Palermo; un altro Ignazio fu capitano giustiziere di Palermo e governatore della Pace nel 1782. Altra famiglia.
