E' una delle Famiglie più antiche nobili di Verona. Nel 1325 Giovanni P. era Giudice in quella città, e sin dal 1410 si riscontra la medesima ascritta a quel Consiglio nobile, al quale ha costantemente appartenuto fino al suo scioglimento. Nel 1654 Giovanni e Giacomo ottennero da Carlo II Duca di Mantova per sè e loro discendenti maschi primogeniti il titolo di Marchese. Questo titolo fu riconosciuto dall'Imperatrice Eleonora allorchè con suo Diploma 15 giugno 1675 onorò del titolo d'Istoriografo imperiale il marchese Giovanni suddetto. Anche il Senato Veneto che con Decreto 15 novembree 1679 creò il detto Giovanni Cavalier di S. Marco, e gli destinò il premio di una collana e medaglia d'oro, confermò tale titolo ed ordinò la descrizione dei membri di essa Famiglia nell'aureo Libro dei Titolati. In considerazione finalmente delle distinzioni e benemerenze di questa Famiglia, la Repubblica Veneta l'aggregò nel 1782 alla nobiltà patrizia.
