É apelido português antigo, pois na relação que o Rei D. Pedro I mandou fazer do cavaleiros que tinham comedoria no mostreiro de Grijó se mencionam Gonçalo Anes de P. e seu irmão Lourenço Anes de P., moradores na terra da Feira. Anteriormente aparecem outras pesoas do mesmo apelido, mas não se sabe o parentesco certo entre umas e outras, nem com o mais antigo de quem se pode deduzir a genealogia. Este á Pedro Vaz de P. que morou na vila de Feira no século XVI o talvez ainda no anterior e deixou geração que continuou o apelido. O que é tirado, conferma parece de um dos lugares deste nome ixistentes na província de Trás-os-Montes e na da Beira.
