Antico ed assai nobile casato francese, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatosi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Europa e del Mondo, con insediamenti principali in Spagna, in Italia e nelle Americhe. Il ramo detto "Pinot de La Gaudinais" ebbe la sua principale residenza in Puy, ove, nel 1658, un Pons Pinot trovasi in qualità di procuratore del re. Jean Pinot, Signore di Montchal, procuratore del re (1682), tenente generale, giudice e primo presidente del siniscalco di Puy, era presente in tale qualità, in data 4 marzo 1697, per gli Stati di Velayì. Lo stesso registrò l'arme della famiglia e prese in moglie Marie Aubadiac, da cui ebbe: 1) Pons-Gaspard, Signore di Montchal, presidente nel siniscalco di Puy (1699-1729), cavaliere degli ordini reali militari ed ospedalieri della Madonna del Carmine e di San Lazzaro di Gerusalemme; 2) Louis, Signore di Fort e di Montchal, consigliere onorario in Puy, marito
