Os antigos patrícios milaneses Piola acrescentaram ao sobrenome o da família Daverio em 1748, como resultado da vontade da marcha. Gio. Battista Daverio, tio materno de Otávio, a quem Daverio deixou todos os seus bens, sob a condição de assumir o cogome e as insígnias de sua família. Ottavio, de fato, obteve, por decreto de 3 de agosto de 1770 do Tribunal Araldico da Lombardia, que seu nobre brasão estava registrado no Código Heráldico, com o quarto brasão de armas de Daverio. Segundo as tradições familiares, os membros dessa família, anteriormente Piora, teriam vindo da França para Milão no início do século XII; mas desde 1199 uma figura de Guido de Piora entre os vereadores da cidade de Alessandria e como embaixadora da mesma cidade aparece no tratado de paz estipulado em Milão em 13 de junho do mesmo ano de 1199 entre os municípios de Milão, Piacenza, Vercelli, Alessandria
