A família Piraino queria vir de Portugal e chegou à Sicília em 1580, com um Domenico e seus filhos, Angelo e Pietro, que deram origem aos vários ramos da família presentes em todo o Reino das Duas Sicílias. De qualquer forma, o ramo primogênito tinha sua residência principal em Cefalù, onde, no declínio do décimo sétimo século, Mario comprou o feudo de Mandralisca, com investidura em 21 de novembro de 1666, e o feudo de Castanha, em 27 de novembro de 1660. Giovan Battista, barão de Mandralisca, ele jurou em Cefalù no ânus 1705-6; Michelangelo, barão de Mandralisca com posse de 4 de agosto de 1709, foi capitão da justiça na cidade em 1757-58; Enrico, barão de Mandralisca, ocupou o cargo de proconservador na cidade de 1774 a 1799, ano em que foi substituído por seu filho Michelangelo, investido por Mandralisca em 22 de março de 1800.
