Nobilissimo casato sardo, originario di Ossi, al quale, Carlo Emanuele III, re di Sardegna, coi diplomi in data 31 agosto 1748, concedeva i titoli di cavaliere e di nobile, in persona di Antonio Giuseppe Piras, già defunto e dei suoi figliuoli e discendenti per linea maschile. Per onor ed amor di completezza, dobbiamo, però, specificare che, nell'elenco nobiliare sardo del 1902, tal famiglia risultava divisa in due rami: uno con dimore in Sassari e Florinas, l'altro in Bonnannaro e Padria. A questa nobile famiglia appartennero: l'illustre giurista avvocato don Antonio Piras, di Ignazio, che fu insigne dottore aggregato e professore ordinario della Facoltà di giurisprudenza della R. Università di Sassari; Francesco, Segretario della Regia Vicaria di Cagliari; Cav. D. Antonio Maria, celebre in Mores; Paolo, Pro-Dottore in Teologia e Beneficiato; Rev.
