Cominciato da G.B. di Crollalanza e continuato poscia da suo figlio Goffredo, l'annuario della Nobiltà Italiana, con il dizionario storico blasonico delle famiglie nobili italiane, ci fa menzione di questa illustre famiglia, originaria del Piemonte. Compare con molto splendore fra la nobiltà piemontese, questa casata, gli antenati della quale, venuti già molti secoli prima in Piemonte, con la loro reputazione, hanno collaborato al raggiungimento delle le maggiori dignità della patria. Tali sono i principi, che da sopracitati Autori si diedero a questa famiglia, ma per esser questo fatto assai remoto, e di storia molto lontana, lasciamo a più eruditi delle sacre antichità, l'investigarne il suo certo principio. Quel che però di certo abbiamo, è che la casata per la loro antichità, e splendore, e per virtù militare, ebbe cariche così laicali, come Ecclesiastici, e per ogni altro pregio di Cavalleria nobilissimi si scorgono, e crebbero un tempo in tanto numero,
