Familia noble originaria de la isla de Malta, con rama en Valencia. Desciente de Juan de P., jurado de aquella isla en 1503, y entre sus ilustres varones se destaca el P. Francisco P., de la Orden de Predicadores y muy versado en letras. Su vida fue ejemplar. Hallándose en Nápoles, en ocasión de una epidemia, demostró gran caridad y celo con los pobres apestados. Por sus excepcionales cualidades le comisionaron los padres de su convento, en 1667, para ir, en calidad de prefecto, con otros religiosos, a las misiones de la Tartania Menor. Salió para este reino el 4 de septiembre de dicho año y llego tres meses más tarde tras penoso viaje. Acusado de ser espía del Papa por un apóstata, fue detenido la noche de Navidad cuando celebrada misa, conducido a prisión y condenado a muerte, de la que le salvó un personaje de aquel país,
