The ancient homeland of this famous family was the ruined castle of Semifonte, after the destruction of which Bonsignore dei Pitti went on pilgrimage to the holy places and devotedly died in Palestine. Bonsignore, his son, transplanted his family to Florence, and Maffero was born from him, who obtained the priory in 1283. He was succeeded by 46 other members of his house until 1530, while 13 of them were gonfaloniers of justice. Neri, nephew and son of the previous one, procreated Pietro, Luigi, Francesco and Buonaccorso, who divided the family into four branches, all powerful in wealth, sustained positions, and pre-eminence in the affairs of the homeland. Many were podestàs in various places, other ambassadors to the Pope and the sovereign courts, other senators, ducal advisors, etc. Nor did there fail literate and brave captains, who mostly illustrated the mostly partisan family of the Medici family.
