Antigua y muy noble familia siciliana, de origen normando, llamada Pizzuto, Pizzato o Pizzati, de clara y ancestral virtud, que gozó de cierta nobleza honorable en Siracusa y Palermo. En cualquier caso, esta ilustre familia, a lo largo de los siglos, siempre logró destacarse, gracias a los altos personajes, a los que dio a luz. Entre estos, sin arriesgar nada al valor de lo omitido, recordamos: Federico, distinguido en la defensa de Malta contra los turcos, en 1565; Dr. Martino, notario real, viviendo en Palermo, en 1598; Camillo, doctor en "utroque jure", viviendo en Siracusa, en 1621; Vincenzo, que fue juez pretoriano de Palermo, en los años 1640-41, 1646-47-48; Paolo, protomédico del Reino de Sicilia, quien, por los servicios prestados por su padre Giuseppe, también protomédico, y por su predicho hermano Vincenzo, obtuvo, con el privilegio del 20 de diciembre de 1648, la concesión del título de barón de Torretonda;
