Antica famiglia originaria di Parma, di chiara ed avita nobiltà, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Già sul calar del secolo XVII, risulta annoverata nei registri della Chiesa di S. Ulderico e negli archivi di famiglia dei marchesi Dalla Rosa Prati di Parma. Per benemerenze civili Francesco Farnese, con privilegio 18 novembre 1706, creò nobili il giureconsulto Francesco Maria de Pizzis, di Federico, e Girolamo, Ignazio, Federico, Giuseppe e Brocardo, della stessa famiglia, con i loro discendenti d'ambo i sessi. Da Antonio, di Francesco (1780), provengono due linee : quella di Agostino e quella di Francesco Saverio. Tra i molti, non possiamo non ricordare il prof. dott. Italo (+ 6 dicembre 1920), già professore nella R. Università di Torino, di lingue e letteratura orientali, il quale fu un orientalista e letterato valentissimo, che lasciò gran numero di opere scientifiche e letterarie e che fu insignito di alte
