Antica famiglia abruzzese, di chiara ed avita virtù, detta Pizzo o Pizzi, con residenza in Ortona a Mare, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Tal casato, il quale risulta ascritto al patriziato di Sulmona, ebbe il possesso di vari feudi, tra i quali: Casacandidella, Guardiagrele, Filetto, Vacri, Rosciano e San Martino, il quale ultimo fu eretto in marchesato a favore di Antonia, di Giuseppe, dopo il 1749. Altro ramo. Famiglia originaria di Parma, detta Pizzo, Pizzi o, più anticamente, de Pitiis, la quale risulta presente, sin dalla seconda metà del XVII secolo. Per benemerenze civili Francesco Farnese, con privilegio 18 novembre 1706, creò nobili il giureconsulto Francesco Maria de Pizzis, di Federico, e Girolamo, Ignazio, Federico, Giuseppe e Broccardo, della medesima famiglia, con tutta la loro discendenza, d'ambo i sessi.
