Apellido catalán, derivado, sin duda, del nombre de alguno de los pueblos así llamados que hay en aquella región. Es muy antiguo. En el claustro de la catedral de Gerona existe la sepultura de una familia P. con el escudo de armas que más adelante describiremos. Data esa sepultura del año 1331. Otra tuvo casa en la ciudad de Barcelona, y otra en la de Solsona (Lérida). Esta última pertenecía en principios del siglo XVI al abad Paulo P., y en ella vivió el doctor Simón Juan P., a quien el rey don Felipe II concedió privilegio de nobleza. Caso con doña Angela Olzina, y procrearon a Ana P. que contrajo matrimonio con Dimas Llordat Alenyá.
