Antigua y muy noble familia piamontesa, de clara y ancestral virtud, que se ha extendido por todo el mundo, a lo largo de los siglos. Conocidos como Platineri, Piatineri o Platinetti, este ilustre linaje tiene su origen en la ciudad de Pinerolo y ostenta la misma agnación que los condes Napioni de Cocconato, conocidos en esa ciudad desde el siglo XIV. Una rama de los Napioni, de hecho, tomó el nombre de Platineri - también atestiguado en los formularios Piatineri y Platinetti - por obligación del abogado Alessandro Platineri (testamento del 5 de noviembre de 1585).
