Antica ed illustre famiglia, aggregata fin dal 1452 al Consiglio nobile di Verona, che trae la sua origine da Bologna, ed aggiunse al proprio nome quello di Poeta perchè uno dei suoi membri erasi reso celebre nel poetare. Era altrettanto fregiata del titolo comitale e descritta con tale qualifica nell'aureo libro dei titolati per ducale del Doge Mocenigo 26 Agosto 1778. Fu confermata nobile con sovrana risoluzione 4 giugno 1820. La presenza del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta della casata. Infatti l'origine del motto risale a circa il XIV secolo e deve essere ricercata in quei detti arguti che venivano scritti sui vessilli o bandiere dei cavalieri, esposti alle finestre delle locande in cui questi alloggiavano, in occasione dei tornei, e durante i tornei stessi.
