Si chiamava anticamente Paltinieri, e possedeva il castello di Monfelice nel Padovano, del quale venne privata da Eccelino da Romano. Si chiamò poi da Pojana per i beni che possedeva in Pojana maggiore. Era aggregata al Consiglio nobile di Vicenza da tempo remoto. Molte furono le famiglie venete che ebbero nobiltà, ma di queste una per tutte la menzione sulla sua origine lo storico F. Schroder nel suo " Repertorio genealogico delle famiglie confermate nobili, e dei titolati nobili esistenti nelle provincie venete, contenente anche le notizie storiche sulla loro origine edito in Venezia, tipografia di Alvisopoli nel 1830. Fu costume delle più antiche famiglie, le quali dopo la caduta del Romano Imperio, in quella inondatione de' Barbari, havendo i loro cognomi, sicome gli studi, e altre cose belle smarrito e restati solo con semplici nomi, trarre di nuovo i loro cognomi, e il loro casato da' nomi proprii paterni,
