Noblesse chevaleresque du Languedoc. Guillaume, chevalier, se croisa l'an 1248. Maintenue le 15 juin 1669. Parmi les personnages les plus marquants de cette maison on signale: un chanoine-comte de Brioude (1706); deux lieutenants-généraux d'armée (1696-1739); deux maréchaux de camp; de nombreux officiers, etc. J.-F. Gabriel, comte de Polastron, sénéchal d'Armagnac, fut le père de Gabrielle-Yolande-Claude-Martine, marié le 7 juillet 1767 à Armand-Jules-François, duc de Polignac, laquelle devint l'amie intime de la reine Marie-Antoinette et gouvernante des Enfants de France (1782). Beaux services militaires. A ce nom, on attribue un signe distinctif de noblesse représenté par le blason que l'on a reproduit ci-contre et qui confirme aussi à travers ses emblêmes, au point de vue historique et héraldique la certitude d'une valeur remarquable. Armes de cette famille: D'argent, au lion de sable, armé et lampassé de gueules.
