Ancient Istrian family, which tradition has derived from the Polesine, but which most likely derives its name from Pula. In ancient times it was called de Montana, the place of its first residence and with this name we find in 1183 an Albericus de Montana, vassal of the Church of Porec; in 1222 we find the De Montana always at the head of the Venetian party fighting against the Patriarch of Aquileia. In 1278 we notice a Nicolò di Montana who in charge of the Montonese to dedicate himself to Venice and the fact itself was remembered by the Veneto Senate in the diploma conferring the title of Marquis in 1778. In 1634 the de Montana began to call themselves Polesini and with that name, unequivocally, we find them registered among the Montonese nobles.
