Família da Ístria antiga, cuja tradição derivou da Polesina, mas que provavelmente deriva seu nome de Pula. Nos tempos antigos, era chamado de Montana, o local de sua primeira residência e, com esse nome, encontramos em 1183 um Albericus de Montana, vassalo da Igreja de Porec; em 1222, encontramos o De Montana sempre à frente do partido veneziano lutando contra o patriarca de Aquileia. Em 1278, notamos um Nicolò di Montana, encarregado dos montonenses de se dedicar a Veneza, e o fato em si foi lembrado pelo Senado de Veneto no diploma que conferia o título de marquês em 1778. Em 1634, os de Montana começaram a se chamar Polesini e com esse nome, inequivocamente, nós os encontramos registrados entre os nobres montonenses. A genealogia da família, no entanto, não pode ser estabelecida com segurança, exceto pela pessoa de Bartolomeo, que vive em 1520, que se casou com Maddalena Barbo,
