La famiglia, forse originari dalla terra di Poletto nel comune di Ronco Ferraro sono nominati a Venezia nel testamento 1 ottobre 1329 nel quale Costantia uxor Marini Poleti vuole esecutrice delle sue volontà Cateriniam matrem suam uxor ser Fantini Merlo priori hospitali Marinorum. Un'altra Costanza Curnis-Poleti, de confinium S. Crucis, il 18 settembre 1416 dispose di essere tumulata nel monastero della Zirada. Il 23 ottobre 1519 Lucas dictus politus q. Nicolai ordina la sua sepoltura in chiesa dei SS. Apostoli sub porticali apud muros ecclesie. Nel principio del secolo XVIII i P. esercitavano in Venezia l'arte tipografica: un di loro, Francesco stampador a S. Marina verso il 1614 era marito di Alba Bressan, che lasciò, alla sua morte, alla nipote Lucia 25 ducati; altri dieci a Fra Michiel da S. Zanipolo e lo stesso a Lavinia per segno di amore; ai più poveri infermi della contrà; beneficò altre donne Zanetta
