Riche bourgeoisie de la Haute-Auvergne, anoblie au XVème siècle. On trouve son nom diversement écrit Pollier, Poulier et parfois Poulhès. Parmi les personnages les plus marquants de cette maison on signale: Esparte, fils d'Azemar, rend hommage du mas de Polier et de divers cens paroisse de Rossi et de Raolhac en Carladès (1355). Géraud Pollier, seigneur de Varilhettes, était lieutenant de Louis de Courcelles, bailli des montagnes d'Auvergne (1390-1438). Il avait un hôtel à Aurillac et était dit fils d'anobli en 1439. Jacques Polier, seigneur de Varilhettes, vivait en 1443. Jean, seigneur de Varilhettes, épousa en 1537 Catherine de Langeac, dame de la baronnie de Cusse, de Chassaigne, etc., d'où trois filles mariées dans les maisons de Cusse, de Murat de Teyssonnières et de Bravards d'Eyssat. Branche à Toulouse. La distinction familiale représentée ici sous forme de blason, survit à travers les siècles grâce à des précieux témoignages qui nous ont permis de rapporter les exploits et les gestes de cette noble famille.
